This a heartwarming story about two of our clients. Jayden and Michael have been working with us for a number of years to help build their capacity to participate in the community. In March 2023, they attended a life-changing event that left all of us feeling emotional, and an unforgettable experience for all of us.
Jayden and Michael, along with their Balance Health Clinicians Maddy and Kevin, and support crew, participated in the Phillip Island All Abilities Surfing Event 2023 at Smiths Beach. For Jayden, it was the first time he had been in the surf in 10 years, and he absolutely loved it! His words after the event were, "I can't believe I didn't do this for 10 years". We were all in tears as we watched him experience pure joy and freedom in the waves. For Michael, it was great to see his family and friends cheering him on. He loves spending time in the water and learning a new skill to surf in addition to his swimming.
It's moments like these that remind us of the power of community and the impact it can have on someone's life.
Balance Health are so grateful to have been a part of this journey with Jayden and Michael and can't wait to see what other amazing things they will achieve in the future. Let us all take a
moment to appreciate the little things in life and the impact they can have on someone's life.
Balance Health would like to thank The Disabled Surfing Association - Bass Coast for organizing the event and all the volunteers that help support the event. A big shout out to Island Surfboards for donating a surfboard to the clinic to allow our clients to practice and prepare for their surf events.
